History of RJ Walker

Robert J. Walker SrIn 1946, our founder, Robert J. Walker Sr., returned from WWII and took a job with the Sears & Roebuck Co. as a heating salesman. In 1954, he decided to open a business of his own and started the R.J. Walker Company. Working primarily as heating contractors in its early years, R.J. Walker evolved into a large distribution company, providing all types of plumbing, heating, electrical and cooling supplies to contractors and homeowners.

In 1979, Robert passed away and his eldest son, Robert Jr., took control of the company. Robert’s brother, John, soon after joined his brother in the business. At the time of their father’s death, the company had one location. Since then, it has expanded to eleven locations: Scranton (two locations), Wilkes-Barre, Carbondale, Sciota, Luzerne, Lehighton, Hawley, Nazareth, Pittston, and Berwick. R.J. Walker currently employs over one hundred people and we know that they are our greatest asset.

With over 65 years’ experience in the plumbing and HVAC business, we remain the leader in sales and service, and offer the largest inventory in Northeast Pennsylvania. Our experienced and professionally trained staff provides heating and cooling designs and sizing, technical and product support to commercial and residential contractors, and assistance with interior design to homeowners. We are here to support you in trouble-shooting and application assistance. We even bump it up a notch by offering personal jobsite visits, same-day delivery, and emergency after-hour service and support to identify and satisfy all of your plumbing, heating, and cooling supply needs!

Robert & John were both proudly born and raised in Scranton and know that Northeast Pa is the best place for their business. With many good friends and relationships in the area, they have a genuine connection to their customer base unlike many business owners do. R.J. Walker Co is committed to supporting and improving our community. We’re deeply involved in many local events and charities. Without our community and supporters, we wouldn’t be here. We are firm believers in shopping local and giving back to the people who keep us alive. We plan to continue to grow and expand our current position in the market. The third generation of the Walker family is now actively involved in the business, ensuring our continued success in the industry.
